Running Form Analysis - Hamburg and Ann Arbor, Michigan

Are you chronically injured?  Does running feel painful?  Are you looking to improve your performance?

Running injuries are most often caused by faulty mechanics.  Improper running form is compounded over the many miles we run.  When running, each foot hits the ground approximately 80-90 times every minute.  That equates to about 5000 times per hour...for EACH FOOT!  If you are running with bad form, it is just a matter of time until your body breaks down and injury occurs.

Faulty form causes injury.  This forces you to take time off from running until the pain subsides.  You return to running and risk not only re-injury, but new injuries due to overcompensation.

To help break this cycle and keep you moving, The Running Institute will provide you with a comprehensive view of both your running form and identify any muscle imbalances that cause improper form and decreased performance.

Let the team of experts at The Running Institute perform a video based biomechanical computer analysis of your running form, to identify flaws that reduce performance and can lead to injury.

What to Expect:

The running video analysis will involve two, one-hour visits to The Running Institute.

On your first visit, we will perform a quick musculoskeletal assessment, to identify any postural problems or muscle imbalances.  We will then videotape you running on a treadmill.  We will record you from the front, side, and back to give a full-picture of your running form.

Your video will be imported into the Dartfish biomechanical analysis software (http://www.dartfish.com) and our team will review your running form:

  • Ron Warhurst - former University of Michigan Track & Field coach and coach for USA Track & Field
  • Pete Kitto, PT - a physical therapist who has worked the USA Olympic Trials and World Championships
  • Earl Wenk, ATC CSCS - an athletic trainer and conditioning specialist to Olympic and NCAA athletes.

This team-centered approach will provide you with the best possible feedback.  We are drawing on over 70 years of running and sports performance to keep you running at your best!

About one week after your initial visit, you will return fand we will provide you with a detailed report of our findings.  We will also review your personalized plan of action, including stretching, strengthening, and running form drills to correct any identified dysfunctions.

For $175 You Will Receive:

  • DVD of Video Analysis
  • Analysis Report, detailing any deficiencies seen in the video analysis
  • Corrective Stretching/Strengthening Plan
  • Running Drills to Improve Running Form
  • Shoe and/or Orthotic Recommendations

As a special addition, you may choose to work one-on-one (or in a group) with The Running Institute’s resident coaching legend Ron Warhurst to help you quickly optimize your running form.

Online Video Assessment

Not in the Michigan area?  The Running Institute can help you through an online running video analysis.

Using desktop sharing software and Skype video conferencing, we will walk you through the video analysis to provide you with an online review of your running form and recommended running form improvements.  For a fee of $100 you will receive this review, plus a report detailing your video analysis with a corrective plan to improve your running form.

Your Videos

You will need to create 10-20 second videos of your running form from 3 angles:  front, side, and back.  Each video should show your full body.  Please click here to view the video instruction document with examples of each view and complete directions.

Testimonials

Thanks Earl! And thank you again for your help. I was really happy with the whole experience. It was so amazing to have two hours in-person of one-on-one expert advice. Plus all of your feedback on the video. On one hand the adjustments seem minor, but I would have never known otherwise and the results I've had so far are really priceless. I'm still battling a bit of a shin splint, but I'm getting some miles in and feeling better than I have in a really long time. I am definitely running more efficiently now.

Cheers,
Erin

Hi Ron and Earl

I wanted to share my good running news with you guys.  I used my half marathon on Sunday to work on my posture and arm swing.  I felt really great and comfortable the entire time.  I met my goal I have been reaching for of breaking 1:40!  Not by much, but I'll take it!  I got a 1:39:30. :-)  Thank you for your help.  I really appreciate it!

Rebecca
